In this article, we are providing complete Selection Procedure to become a government teacher. Only graduate candidates cannot apply for the position of a Teacher. It is compulsory for the candidate to have a B.Ed. BTC / D.Ed. / B.El.Ed, etc. degree, in order, apply for the Teacher positions.


There is so much difference between PRT/TGT/PGT. There is different provision to apply for each and every post. PRT teacher can teach up to 5th level, TGT teacher can teach up to 10th standard and PGT teacher can teach 11th & 12th standard only.

PRT (Primary Teacher): Aspirants who want to become a teacher for primary classes i.e. 1st to 5th standard, appears for PRT post. For PRT, after 12th, student will opt JBT/BTC/B.EL.Ed/D.ED etc. and after that, you have to qualify CTET/STET Paper I.

TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher): Only having graduation degree is not enough for applying TGT posts. For TGT posts you have to do B.Ed. after graduation and then qualify CTET/STET Paper  II. After that, you are eligible for TGT posts.

PGT (Post Graduate Teacher): ‘PGT ‘as the name says for only Post Graduate (Master Degree) holder is eligible for PGT Posts. But you have to do B.Ed. after this to eligible for PGT posts.

Special Note: B.tech( CS) students are eligible for PGT (CS) or PGT(IT) posts. And they don't need to qualify the CTET Exam. 
But, if you are from any other Engineering Stream then you have to do any computer application based certificate/diploma/degree course.

Note: CTET/STET is not mandatory for PGT posts.

Most important concern about any job profile is pay scale. So friends, in teaching profession the salary package is also very attractive now.


PRT: PAY SCALE-Rs. 9300-34800 (Grade Pay Rs.4200)
Basic Pay: 35,400/- (according to 7th pay commission)

TGT: PAY SCALE- Rs. 9300-34800 (Grade Pay Rs.4600)
Basic Pay: 44,900/- (according to 7th pay commission)

PGT: PAY SCALE- Rs. 9300-34800 (Grade Pay Rs.4800)
Basic Pay: 47,600/- (according to 7th pay commission)

In today’s times, there are lots of opportunities for students to grab the govt.  job with their hard work & determination. One of the important & most desirable opportunities is “Teaching Field” in which you get the fair chance to get the job in govt. sectors through open competition.

Nowadays, CTET has become compulsory for the selection as a teacher. Many of Private/Public School has also made CTET certificate compulsory eligibility criteria for the selection as a teacher.
